Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nivin Dalwin, the three victims, were preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations in India, which determine who gets to work as a civil servant, one of the most sought-after government jobs in the country.

Following heavy rain on July 31 evening, the Old Rajinder Nagar district of Delhi, where three students perished due to flooding in a coaching center’s basement the previous week, was once again drowned. Commuters had to wade through flooded lanes, fearful for their lives.

Anger and demonstrations have been triggered by the drowning of three students in the basement of an exam tutoring center in Delhi, the capital of India.


The students lost their lives on Saturday night when they became stuck in the flooded basement where they were studying.


Seven persons, including the institute’s owner, have been taken into custody by the police, and cases have been filed against them for careless death.

Thousands of students enroll in Rau’s IAS Study Circle, one of several institutes in the capital, to get ready for the challenging national exams.
