Indian Railway Reward for students and Senior Citizens

50% in second and SL class and 50% in MST and QST make up the general category. SC/ST Category: 75% in MST and QST, and 75% in 2nd and SL classes. Free second class MST for girls up to graduation and males up to the 12th grade (including Madrasa students) between home and school.

Indian Railways’ Student Reservation Policies and Concession :

  • Only Sleeper Class (SL) and Second Seating (2S) I tickets are eligible for the Student Concession tickets.
  • The only tickets that may be exchanged for student concessions are I-tickets; to do so, visit the closest Railway Reservation Office with both the I-ticket and the valid student concession order.
  • by bringing his journey/reservation ticket to the reservation office and asking to have it exchanged for the student discount.
  • He will turn in his previous, fully paid ticket, and be given a student concession ticket with the updated fare and the same seat/berth number.
  • IRCTC would reimburse the difference between the fare (paid and payable) and credit his account electronically the next day, deducting the clerk age fee of Rs. 20/-.

How will the fare difference that I paid over and above the student concession be refunded?

Upon receipt of the refund file from the Railways, IRCTC would electronically credit his account with the difference between the fare (paid and payable) minus the clerk age fee of Rs. 20/-the next day.

Student Concession :-

  • Educational tours and visits to the students’ hometowns:
  • The General Category consists of 50% MST and QST and 50% 2nd and SL class.
    75% of SC/ST students are in 2nd and SL classes, and 75% are in MST and QST.
  • Between home and school (MST): free second class for girls up to graduation and males up to the 12th grade (including Madrasa students). The MST
  • Students from government schools in rural regions, 75% of whom are in second class, go on an annual study excursion.
  • Entrance exam: 75% in 2nd class for girls attending government schools in rural regions at the national level for engineering, medicine, etc.
  • 50% in the second class is the concession given to candidates taking the UPSC and Central Staff Selection Commission main written test.
  • 50% of international students studying in India travel to camps and seminars hosted by the Indian government, as well as spend their holidays visiting historical and other significant locations.
  • 50% of 2nd and SL class research scholars up to the age of 35 for travels related to research work
  • Participating in work camps include both students and non-students; 25% are in second and SL classes.
  • 50% of cadets and apprentice marine engineers enrolled in 2nd and SL classes are undertaking navigational and engineering training for mercantile marine, with the goal of traveling between their home and training ship.

Season Tickets To Students :

  • Students are given season passes for First and Second class travel up to a limit of 150 kilometers.
  • Student quarterly season tickets will be charged at 2.7 times the student MST rate, and student
  • monthly season tickets will be charged at half of the regular adult season ticket price.
  • Students at accredited universities will be able to obtain these MSTs and QSTs at no cost at all.
  • It is stipulated that the age of the students to whom the tickets are granted cannot be more than 25 years old for general students, 27 years old for students from Scheduled Castes and Tribes, and 35 years old for research scholars.

NOTE:

  • Students from Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes will receive season tickets in the following manner:
  • MSTs: Upon payment of 50% less than the standard student MST and QST rates: upon payment of MSTs at a rate 2.7 times the discounted rates listed below. (i) above

Free MST to Students :

For daily transportation between their place of residence and school, Boy students studying up to the 10th standard and Girl students studying up to the 12th standard are eligible for Free Monthly Season Tickets (MSTs). The caption “MILLENIUM GIFT FROM RAILWAYS” appears on them. The following requirements must be met in order to receive these complimentary MSTs: –

There are no QSTs issued; only MSTs are.

  • Similar to concessional student MSTs, they can be issued for a maximum of 150 kilometers.
  • These tickets only good for travel in second class and cannot be used on any Mail or Express train, including the superfast train.
  • These MSTs are subject to no additional fees, not even the CIDCO premium that applies to travel on the Central and Western Railroad.

IMPORTANT – FOR SENIOR CITIZENS :

Senior people will no longer be offered concessions through the PRS (Passenger Reservation System) by default; instead, they will only be granted on demand starting on September 1, 2001. In the event that tickets are booked, the request for a concession must be submitted via the Reservation Request form. When tickets are discounted for senior citizens, the concerned passengers are advised to bring official documentation, such as a passport, driver’s license, identity card, educational certificate, certificate from a local body like a panchayat, corporation, or municipality, or any other recognized document, during their travels to verify their age or date of birth. During the trip, this formal evidence of age should be presented upon request from a railway official.
