Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal against the Delhi High Court ruling maintaining his arrest by the CBI in a corruption case involving the purported excise policy fraud is set to be heard by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
Kejriwal will present a second bail request to the highest court in this matter.
August 14, 2024: In relation to the Delhi excise policy case, the Supreme Court will consider a request for Arvind Kejriwal’s release from jail on Wednesday. to overturn the Delhi High Court’s ruling in favor of his CBI in a corruption case involving the alleged excise policy fraud will also be taken into consideration by the top court. Judges Ujjal Bhuyan and Surya Kant will hear two petitions that Kejriwal has filed.
The Delhi High Court ruled on August 5 that Kejriwal’s detention was appropriate since the CBI had enough proof to back it up.On March 21, 2024, (ED) detained the AAP supremo in relation to anomalies in a case involving an excise policy scheme. Later, he was granted bail
In his application, Kejriwal questioned his detention and subsequent custody orders, as well as asking for bail. It was filed two days after the Supreme Court freed former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on bail in a related inquiry by the CBI and ED.
Kejriwal’s argument mostly relied on the Sisodia case judgment, arguing that Kejriwal should be granted bail for the same reasons that Sisodia was.
After the lieutenant governor of Delhi decided to launch a CBI probe into alleged irregularities and corruption during the program’s development and execution, the excise policy was terminated in 2022. CBI and the ED found anomalies in the policy change that resulted in license holders receiving preferential treatment throughout their investigation.
