The state of Bihar in northeastern India is home to the historic city of Rajgir. Known for its sacred locations, the area is encircled by hills. In the middle still lie remnants of the Cyclopean Wall that formerly surrounded the city centuries ago. A Buddha-built monastery previously stood in nearby Venu Vana Park. Huge Buddha statue inside the Japanese temple styled like a shield. There are hot springs nearby that are thought to provide therapeutic benefits.
1. Vishwa Shanti Stupa
The Peace Pagoda is also known as the Vishwa Shanti Stupa. Its tranquil attractiveness qualifies as divine, as it is situated at the highest point of Ratnagiri hill, at an elevation of 400 meters in Rajgir. Completely constructed of marble, the stupa is home to four golden statues of Lord Buddha, each symbolizing a different stage of his life—birth, enlightenment, preaching, and death. Tourists can access the top of Ratnagiri hill, Vishwa Shanti Stupa, via a ropeway. A winding staircase leads to this “Stupa” in another direction.

Additionally, the area has a pond known as Kalandakanivapa, which translates to “squirrel or jay feeding ground.”
4. Griddhakuta Peak
True to the meaning of its name, Vulture Peak resembles a vulture head when viewed from below thanks to the creation of natural stone. Buddhist texts also refer to the location as “Gujjhakut.”
One of the oldest locations where the Buddha is credited with preaching his Lotus Sermon was also one of his preferred places for meditation. The strong sensation of spiritual force at the summit, free of any artificial grandeur, is still palpable today. This is where a 600 BCE Buddha statue was discovered and is now kept at the Archaeological Museum of Nalanda. The trail that leads to Ghoda Katora Lake and the surrounding woodland scenery enhance the guests’ heavenly experience.
5. Rajgir Hot Springs
The holy natural water springs of Rajgir, Bihar are located three kilometers from Rajgir Railway Station. It is one of the well-known hot springs in Bihar and one of the main pilgrimage sites in Rajgir, and it is located close to Pandu Pokhar.
One of Rajgir’s most well-liked attractions is the Hot Water Springs, which are located at the base of Vaibhava Hill. In Rajgir, there are about seven hot springs that are revered by followers of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. The seven streams known as Saptadhara, which are thought to have their source in the Saptaparni Caves at the summit of the hill, provide the water. The most revered spring is thought to be the one in Brahmakund.
6. Ashoka Stupa Peak
One of Rajgir’s most popular tourist destinations is Ashoka Stupa Peak. There is a brick stupa located there. Today, the stupa is in ruins. Buddhists hold that Emperor Ashoka personally built the stupa as a tribute to Griddhakuta. A Kalanda tank is located next to the Ashoka Stupa. The fact that Shakyamuni is said to have taken a bath in this tank adds even more significance. Stupa is a pillar with an elephant figure atop it near Ashoka.
7. Ghora Katora Lake
“Horse Bowl,” or Ghora Katora, is the name of a natural lake in the Indian state of Bihar that is located close to Rajgir. Three of the lake’s sides are covered in mountains, giving it a horse-like form.
8. Swarna Bhandar
The Son Bhandar Caves, sometimes called the Swarn Bhandar Caves, are two man-made caves located in Rajgir, Bihar, India, at the foot of the Vaibhar Hills.The caves are generally dated to the third or fourth century CE based on the dedicatory inscription discovered in the largest cave, which is written in Gupta script from the fourth century CE. However, some authors have proposed that the caves may actually date back to the Mauryan Empire, possibly as early as 319 BCE.Like the previous Barabar Caves, the main cave is rectangular with a trapezoidal entrance and a vaulted ceiling. However, compared to the Barabar Caves, the polish and finish level is far worse.
9. hiuen tsang memorial hall
A memorial has been erected in honor of Xuanzang, the Chinese scholar monk and traveler who studied at Nalanda before going on to teach at the historic Nalanda Mahavihara. The majestic hall is situated at 1.3 miles from the Nalanda ruins.
In January 1957, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama of Tibet gave the relics of Xuanzang, his biography, and an endowment for the building of a hall in his honor to Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister, on behalf of the Indian government. The goal of the initiative was to strengthen India-China cultural ties. The building project was finished in 1984, having begun in 1960.
